Our Mission
We are the only student-run organization at NYU dedicated to understanding the forces that shape prosperity, state capacity, and long-run economic development. The organization’s focus is on understanding how institutions, markets, finance, and innovation shape long-run economic development and the rise of prosperous societies.
Our mission is to connect students with the intellectual, professional, and analytical resources necessary to apply their business and economic skills to real-world challenges in development, global finance, and public policy.
Our Story
Economic Development Group (EDG) was founded in the fall of 2019 by two NYU Stern seniors who believe business can be used as a powerful vehicle to improve a community’s standard of living. After being introduced to economic development through an experiential learning course their freshman year, both students began studying how socially responsible businesses can benefit local communities while still turning a profit.
Through internship opportunities, academic coursework, and extracurricular activities, the complete picture of economic development began to crystallize: a complex interplay between governments, businesses, and institutions help determine the global development agenda.
Upon returning to campus after studying overseas, both students felt compelled to establish the first club dedicated to discussing economic development issues. EDG was born out of this passionate vision to provide Stern students with the toolset to tackle some of the world’s most pressing development challenges.
Our Meetings
EDG will host a variety of programs and events during the academic year. Our weekly meetings will be held on Thursdays from 12:30 - 1:30 PM in T-200 and will feature guest speakers, educational series, hands-on workshops, co-sponsored firm events, and student panels.
