Bringing attention to underreported global news stories with wide ranging economic implications
As a part of EDG’s Journalism program, you will
specialize in a specific geographic region or industry by analyzing economic trends, political influences, and social development opportunities
produce an editorial (long-form writing piece) on your chosen region/industry and have the opportunity to produce a related news video.
build valuable professional skills, including networking and effectively conveying your story to recruiters

Journalism members choose between two creative tracks, both exploring economic development through storytelling:
Writing Track
Long-form articles and analytical/op-ed pieces (600-1,200 words per assignment)
*Topics include neighborhood economic analysis, interview-based journalism to policy commentary
Multimedia Track
Video, photography, and other visual/audio storytelling (1.5-3 minutes per piece) on the same topics as the writing track
NYU EDG Journalism has partnered with NYU IR Insider on a semesterly joint publication that brings attention to international and underreported stories in economics. Our first issue, Volume 1 (Fall 2025), marks the first collaboration between the two organizations and EDG's first print issue. Student writers from both groups researched, met with experts, and workshopped their pieces together, producing articles on foreign aid and debt, the rare earth supply chain, South Korea's fertility crisis, post-war reconstruction, housing policy in Malaysia, education systems, and more.
